A MUM watched in horror on a baby monitor as she caught a thug attempting to murder her toddler.

Lewis Prince, 29, slapped, punched and stamped on the two-year-old in a "sickening and repeated assault".

He also strangled and smothered the youngster as their mum watched the horror unfold on a stream on her mobile.

Prince had been tasked with looking after the toddler while she popped out but flew into a rage when they would not stop crying.

When the mum returned home to Blackpool, the thug grabbed her arm and tried to stop her calling the police.

Prince has now been jailed for 26 years with a further four years ti be carried out on licence after he was convicted of attempted murder and assault by beating.

Preston Crown Court heard Prince launched into the attack on December 7 last year.

In harrowing, six-second recordings he could be seen punching and slapping the youngster.

Prince also grabbed the toddler's neck and repeatedly threw them down as they attempted to get back up.

At one stage, the dad-of-two went to get a bag of frozen peas for the injured child, which he just shoved onto their face.

When the mum returned home, she ran up the stairs and pushed Prince out of the way to get to her child.

The thug then pinned her down and grabbed her arm in a desperate bid to stop her calling police.

When he demanded she show him the bruises on the child, the mum said: "I don't need to. You already know what you've done."

The woman eventually managed to run to neighbours, with the toddler rushed to hospital.

Jurors heard they had injuries consistent with strangulation but has since gone on to make a full recovery.

One paramedic said the tot had bruises like "you would get at a boxing match, that's the only time I've seen any bruising like that".

DS Isobel Garratt, of Lancashire Police said: "Prince’s sickening attack could quite easily have resulted in the victim losing his life.

"Fortunately, he has since made a full recovery but anyone who watched the harrowing footage of the assault will know that the outcome could quite easily have been different."
